Why?

Analysts now predict gasoline will go to $4 per gallon in the near future. The oil companies apparently are not hurting. Why do all of us have to sacrifice, and not the oil companies? Why indeed!

I heard Robert Reich suggest a windfall profits tax on oil companies this morning on NPR.

Not exactly a new idea by any means, especially for oil companies. But, it is an idea with merit, particularly now.

Do you suppose any of the big oil companies are donating any of their outrageous boom profits to the hurricane victims?

If any of the oil companies does this, they will spend almost as much to produce & run a slick ad to let the world know.

Oil companies are collecting such a huge profit because they give large contributions to politicians. This is profitable because the politicians in return vote them tax breaks. People tend to think that this is innevitable. However they would have no power if not for people giving them money.
It is not impossible to live without purchasing oil, it simply takes a certain set of choices. I do not give money to oil companies, I purchase only very minute amounts.

These people are most heinous, however they only have power because people give them that power through the pocketbook.
